“Efforts and courage are not enough without purpose and direction.”
Never has there been a more pertinent quote for our times. Except it isn’t.
While its resonance and relevance live on today, those words from JFK emerged in the months following the Cuban missile crisis when – as we all know – the world stepped back from the precipice of nuclear armageddon. Two months later he was dead.
The world has forever crashed from sunny uplands to the dark clouds of economic and political upheaval. While we can manage those factors within our own scope of relevance, we can do little about the broader economic, social and political mores that give us the environment to operate in. We can only react to and prepare as best we can for what comes our way.
And today’s challenges are apparent for all to see.
Yet, we must engage with the best opportunities that we have before us, or can see in adjacencies and new ventures. What we need most is to be resilient and ensure we grasp that purpose and direction.
The world has never been more connected – and with it that brings opportunities and huge challenges. We are under scrutiny like never before; whatever we say, project or promote can be lauded or decried within minutes in an atmosphere where huge swathes of the digitally-connected planet are want to be offended.
So, while you may feel the pressure to react now and engage momentarily at speed, there is sense in taking a breath, understanding the challenge ahead and ensuring you are clear in what you wish to say and why. But also remember that you are speaking to people like you…
Communications is fraught and sometimes scary, but providing the right message can give us that sense of purpose and direction. We have never been more connected and technology shows how quickly we can find new avenues for engagement; what we need to do is ensure our messaging is unambiguous and retains the sanctity of what we do.
Then our efforts will bring reward and courage ensure success.
If we can help with your communications, or assist in protecting your reputation, let’s talk.
